About herself, Elaine says: Geoff, my husband of 50 years, & I live on the beautiful South Island of New Zealand. We live in rural Soutth Otago on top of a hill with magnificent views of rolling farm land, mountains, & Lake Waihola. We have 2 married daughters & 5 grandchildren. A registered nurse until I married in 1954, I then became a farmers wife in the days when it was frowned upon for wives to have a career, so I dutifully stayed at home, bought up our family & had plenty of time to ply my many craft loves. I had been taught needle work at my Nana's knee at a very early age & it has always been my first love, but for a period of 10 to 15 yrs spinning & weaving took over until an embroidery guild was formed in our area & my love of stitching was revived. 2 yrs ago just before the PNM swap came into being, Patchwork & Quilting came into my life & it wasn't long before I was well hooked, though I must say I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I signed up for Pick-n Mix, those first few blocks, having never made a block in my life, were nightmares but I surely learnt fast! However, embarrassed though I am over the first blocks, belonging to this group has been one of the best things that have come out of the computer, long may our group stay together. finished quilt, on the bed - another view - and another |
