    Mary C

Mary asked for a block on the theme "Water water" - whether blocks whose names have a watery reference of "watery" colours, or subject matter. Colours might include blue, turquoise, etc.

About herself, Mary says: I'm a post war baby boomer. I've lived in my present house in Canterbury for 25+ years but have passed through many places on the way from my native Lancashire via Durham University with spells in Hereford, Turkey [Ankara and Istanbul] pre-package tour era, Morocco and latterly Malaysia.

I've never really had a career but a series of jobs starting off in teaching but swapping to librarianship halfway through. I really enjoyed working in various public libraries but am now in my part-time retirement post in a prison library which is an interesting environment to say the least! Although I married straight after finals we didn't start our family till 10 years later when we returned from our travels to the UK but I've still managed to fit in a delightful grandson who is growing up with lots of quilts around.

I was very bookish as a child and people who knew me then would be very surprised to see what a major part the work of my hands has come to play in my life. I did Latin as the headmistress said "We can't possibly let Mary loose round the school with a pair of scissors." I began with not very successful attempts at dressmaking via machine knitting (and still have 4 machines under the bed) before arriving at quiltmaking. I slept under a hexagon coverlet as a child...
