    Sal

Sal asked for our best or favourite pieced block. She'd rather have a very simple block executed perfectly than a really complicated pattern with errors. She asked for no applique, no representational blocks (dogs, cats, houses, etc) and nothing directional, in case she decided to put her blocks on point.

In terms of colours, she asked for medium and dark batiks, and no white. She had just got the book "Batik Beauties" which is "crammed with rich dark yumminess" and this inspired her colour/fabric preferences.

Sal also made duplicates of many of the blocks that she made for others in the swap, but in her own batik colours. Her plan is to wll combine these blocks with the ones she receives to make a large quilt.

In the end, Sal found that she hadn't perhaps been specific enough in her colour preferences, and consequently the blocks didn't go together in the way she'd imagined. So she quickly changed strategy and decided to do a sort of stack and slash effect. The resulting quilt is very effective.
